"Dear Babe" ~ 18th c. baby's cap crown insert in needle lace. This type of needle lace is known as hollie stitch or hollie point. It is a knotted buttonhole technique in which the pattern appears in the openings between the stitches. Inscription on back: "Worked for my fathers cap crown ___ ____ born 1775."
