18th c. ENGLISH Infant's Cap Crown Insert
RARE 18th c. English baby's cap crown insert in needle lace, "Dear Babe". This type of needle lace is known as hollie stitch or hollie point. It is a knotted buttonhole technique in which the pattern appears in the openings between the stitches.
Inscription on Back:
"Worked for my fathers cap crown ___ ____ born 1775." "St. John's in Wilder__ Withycombs Raleigh. Frame (made) of wood from old ____. - H.L.K."
Frame: 3.25" dia. x .5" h.
Lace: 1.5" x 1.25"
Some yellowing to fragment. Spotting / foxing to paper backing.
