19th c. Painted Wicker Sewing Basket w/ Contents ~ New Sharon, ME
Charming hand painted black ash sewing basket with personal belongings. Includes signed c.1840s Bölian brass frame glasses, green twill wool needle holder, J. Rogers & Sons (Sheffield) pair of steel scissors, and blue and white chintz fabric with attached note.
"This basket was left by Sally Steele George of New Sharon, ME. It is just as she worked making patchwork. She died at the age of 97 years, in June 1888."
One of a kind treasure from the last half of the 19th c.

CONDITION:
VERY GOOD. Basket in VERY GOOD condition with mild wicker loss at one handle attachment.
Glasses in GOOD shape with both lenses and no distortion to frame. Scissors are not super tight but cut well. Steel is darkened. Needle case is AS-IS condition with a few holes and a stain to "pages", foxing to interior jacquard "box" lining, trim loss and a few holes on exterior.
