Wonderful silk on linen Spanish ornamental sampler worked by Josefa Mateo Diaz in 1840.
Columns with cherubs holding garlands lifted from elegant urns with wreathes above. This rectangular design includes the familiar repeating border patterns common to Spanish rugs.
Linen, silk, plain weave; embroidered in cross, straight, satin, stem, and back stitches.
