The Crandall descendants were widespread in Washington County, RI, and neighboring New London County, CT. Mary appears to have been the daughter of Captain Joseph Henry Crandall Jr. and his wife Nancy Lanphere. Her mother was from Stonington, less than 10 minutes northwest of the state and county lines. Born in 1801, Mary never married, and remained in the region until her passing in 1890.
