Charming 19th c. pocket sampler of a basket of fruit with pair of birds, worked on a fine linen 80ct ground. Dated 1851, with verse "Gratitude for kindness"
Pocket watch samplers offered protection to the inner watch gears, providing cushioning against movement. Paper versions with advertisements were common at the time, but a handmade token of affection was a treasured keepsake.
Worked in green, red, ochre, cream, brown, and navy colored silk on a natural ground.
