Charming 19th c. pocket sampler with central heart motif surrounded by four geometric motifs and initials. Worked on a 64ct linen gauze ground. Decoratively hemmed around the border.
Pocket watch samplers offered protection to the inner watch gears, providing cushioning against movement. Paper versions with advertisements were common at the time, but a handmade token of affection was a treasured keepsake.
Worked in a dark sage, mauve, cream, pale blue, and soft brown colored silk on a natural ground, with bamboo colored border.
