German Dresden Woven Paper Wicker Candy Basket Christmas Ornament

A wonderful Dresden "wicker" candy basket. This rare example is assembled from woven paper, and trimmed with an embossed paper border and leather handle. Gilt embossed medallions feature small 19th c. prints of pairs of women. Gilt stars adorn the other sides. It has a celery colored silk closure with silk thread drawstring. It would have been hung on a Christmas tree filled with small treats.

Overall good condition, with no loss to paper. Some spotting and darkening. Silk closure is delicate with small tear, and has pulled away from rim of container.
