Assisi work or Punto d'Assisi is a form of traditional Italian embroidery that originated in Umbria, Italy. Often done in blue on a natural linen ground. The figures are first outlined in backstitch, followed by a tight cross stitch to fill the background. The animals and motifs emerge thru the unworked areas. Many of the motifs derive from the Mosaic of Duomo of Assisi.
