Early 19th c. sampler worked in silk on a polished linen plain weave. Beautifully demonstrating damask pattern darns in small square samples. Worked in colored silks with repeated geometric and border patterns, some with stylized flowers, the upper section embroidered with alphabets and numerals. Initialed. Northern European, probably Dutch.
CONDITION: Unframed. Unmounted. Some discoloration to ground, with darkening in several spots. No holes. Silk trim in excellent condition.
