Wonderful colored silk on handwoven linen band sampler worked by Hannah Nichols. Possibly Yorkshire, England. Four sets of alphabets worked over twelve horizontal bands. Includes a menagerie of motifs in the bottom panel, with a pair of owls, ten birds, two dogs, and a central architectural structure. Stitches: satin, cross, double running, eyelet, plait, and Gobelin.
