19th c. Berlin Wool Needlework Cavalier King Charles Dog w/ Parrot
Remarkable large Berlin wool work depicting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel resting on a regal tufted pillow with companion parrot. Surrounded by a botanical border of red, pink, and cream roses.
This image of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 'Dash' is inspired by the 1838 painting by Sir Edwin Landseer RA (1802-1873), titled "Hector, Nero and Dash with the parrot, Lory", commissioned by Queen Victoria. The painting resides in the Royal Collection. Lory the parrot belonged to H.R.H The Duchess of Kent. (source: Hamshere Gallery)
