Late 19th c. knitting roll sampler or "breirol". This cotton sampler features 12 "recipes" or patterns, and one square with Amalie's initials AF. Worked in a gauge of 18 stitches per inch. A beautiful collection of patterns that would traditionally be rolled up for storage between addition of patterns.

Rhineland, Prussia, Germany, c. 1877

Finished with knitted lace edging and blue tissue paper backing. A lovely historic reference "book" for knitted lace patterns.

SIZE:

38" x 6"

CONDITION:

Good. All stitches intact. Some darkening to fiber on fold lines. Tissue paper backing AS-IS.

PROVENANCE:

Acquired in the early 1980s at auction.
