1869 Godey's Lady's Book Presentation Sheet of Embroideries
Provided to subscribers, upon opening the December edition of Godey's Lady's Book, one would find a “presentation sheet of embroideries”. It was such a successful offering, that it was repeated several times thru out the year. Godey's Lady's Book was founded in 1830 in Philadelphia by Louis A. Godey.
“Each issue featured a wide range of information, including sheet music for piano, patterns for clothing and toys, instructions and patterns for needlework, recipes for cleaning and cooking, house plans, educational activities for children, fictional stories, technical developments, medical information, and home remedies. It was one of the first publications to offer mail order opportunities.” (source: Grace Grogan http://www.lakeshoreguardian.com/site/author/36/Grace-Grogan)
